- A macOS device (MacBook, Mac mini, iMac, etc.).
Resizing an APFS container is pretty simple with a few steps in the command line. First, type the following command:
diskutil list
Look for a disk with Apple_APFS Container in the name. That disk will be the drive argument.
diskutil apfs resizeContainer [drive] [size]
For the size argument, type 0 to expand the APFS container to the maximum size available.
Note: if you are attempting to resize the drive you are currently booted into, you will have to reboot into recovery mode. While booting the Mac, press and hold ⌘R (Intel), or continue to hold the power button and select
Options(ARM).
